Writers’ Bureau

SITCIOT maintains a Writers’ Bureau for the purpose of educating the public and ensuring that those in the media that have a wish to cover the seatbelt debate have material from our side with which to use. A Writers’ Bureau is simply a group of free lance writers who make their works available through a centralized outlet. An example of a well-known Writers’ Bureau is The Washington Post Writers’ Group.

You retain full credit for your work and will be credited with the byline in any publication that uses our content. Then, we submit them to news editors across the country who subscribe to our list. We also use them on our website. Op-eds from our Writers’ Bureau are not propaganda, but they do share some similar traits, i.e. they are slanted in favor of one viewpoint.

Do any of these describe or apply to you recently?

  • When a complaint needs to be put in writing, everyone flocks to me.
  • The local newspaper often uses my letters and they get people talking.
  • My writing often earns me compliments at work.

If so, you could be cut out for a position on the SITCIOT Writers’ Bureau. The Writers’ Bureau is run by a group of volunteers who have the gift of the poison pen and know how to use it. Writers’ Bureau members are expected to author and edit at least three article-length opinionated editorials (op-eds) each year and submit them to us free of any copyright encumbrances. In essence, you release your writing into the public domain.

Unlike regular newspaper “letter to the editor” type submissions, op-eds are more lengthy, written from an intelligent perspective and focus on persuading the reader to a particular viewpoint while still maintaining an air of neutrality and fair coverage. Submissions for the Bureau are high-quality, polished pieces of journalism ready for publication. They are free of misspellings, use proper grammar and project an image of intelligence and expertise on the part of the author. They cite facts and back up assertions with logical facts that allow the average reader to connect the dots. Submissions are between 800 and 2,000 words in length, with the ideal length being between 1,200 to 1,500 words.

Considering Hitching up with the SITCIOT Writers’ Bureau?

If you’d like to be considered for membership, please contact us and include a sample of your work on the seatbelt topic. It need not have been previously published, but it should be polished and ready for publication.
