Discussion

The staff of SITCIOT maintains a publicly available and free discussion forum designed to help you obtain information about topics not on our website. You can use the forum to get help with fighting a traffic ticket, networking with fellow seatbelt choice advocates and to organize events and actions in your area.

Everyone - including those who disagree with our position on compulsory seatbelt laws - is welcomed and encouraged to participate in our forums. We do not censor people who disagree with our take on a topic, but we will try to persuade them to see things from our point of view. Use of our forums is subject to the following rules and regulations:

  • Attack the issues, not the person presenting the issue. Sometimes the person is the issue and this is unavoidable. Try to make a good faith effort anyway.
  • Avoid over use of profanity. Some are offended by any use of profanity but SITCIOT refuses to censor it based on the same principles that guide our belief in the right to choose to buckle up or not. None the less, a little bit of respect for the sensitivities of fellow human beings has never hurt anyone.
  • Be prepared to back up your argument. Our regular members are intelligent people and if you expect to change minds about an issue, you best be prepared to back up your argument(s) with facts. They will not just take your word for it.
  • Do not post advertisements (spam) to the list. No one likes a spammer. If you’d like to promote a product that fits with the focus of this website, contact us for information on how to place an ad on our site or send us a press release, we may write about it for free and give you far better coverage than the spam you would have posted.
  • If you take from the list, give something back. Too often we have people who come and get help fighting a ticket, win (or lose) their case and we never hear from them again. Tell us how your case went and help someone else getting ready to go through it.
  • Don’t bite the newcomers. Everyone was new to this site at one point - even the admin. Make new people feel welcome and try to avoid embarrassing them by ‘pointing and laughing’ at an innocent mistake. If you feel its important to set someone straight, please e-mail them directly, off the list.
  • One thread per topic, one topic per thread. If you have an issue related to a thread currently being discussed, please post a reply to that thread instead of starting a new one. Likewise, if you have a topic not being discussed, start a new thread instead of hijacking a thread on an unrelated subject. Doing these two things makes the moderators adore you and keeps the list uncluttered.

Obviously, users who do not follow the rules may be ejected from the list. Unlike the United States, SITCIOT’s discussion list is not a democracy. And actually, neither is the United States. But that is a topic for another website. The decisions of the moderators in any and all matters related to the list are final and not subject to referendum.

This is the easy part. The list is hosted by Yahoo, but you do not need a Yahoo ID to join the list and participate. However, having one lets you read the list online like a forum, which can be helpful for research and keeping up when you are away from your e-mail. To signup with a Yahoo ID, visit the website below and hit Join. Otherwise, use the subscribe e-mail and follow the commands that the system e-mails to you.

Due to a now-resolved SPAM problem, all posts by new users to the SITCIOT discussion forums are moderated and members are screened prior to being admitted to the group. This has resulted in a problem-free environment for our members. The spam problem is resolved, you will not get spam by joining our list.

SITCIOT does not rent, sell or otherwise provide others with access to the list subscribers. We also do not send mail on behalf of third-parties. Simply put, we don’t send SPAM. Note that because the list is hosted at Yahoo, their privacy policy applies and in cases of conflict, theirs will override ours.
